September 29, 2008 -- There's a terrific review of The Dragonslayer's Sword on the Bitten By Books website (click here to read it). The reviewer really understands what I'm doing with my novel, which is something I always appreciate!

September 21, 2008 -- I did a book signing and reading at the Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester, Massachusestts yesterday. If I had to describe it in a single word, that word would be "charming." The folks at Higgins did a wonderful job, and I really enjoyed the audience. Everyone I met had interesting things to say, and I learned a lot from them, which is always good. After I did the reading, people asked excellent questions -- and I ended up getting ideas for the future books I've planned for this series! The gift shop at Higgins also set up a really beautiful display for The Dragonslayer's Sword: they have a display table that looks like a castle, and they surrounded copies of my books with all kinds of dragons. So books and dragons are arranged on top of the castle, which is perfectly in sync with the cover of my novel! The display took my breath away. Thank you to everyone who came to the event and everyone who was involved in working on it!

July 18, 2008 -- This is me at ReaderCon with my hot-off-the-press novel in hand.
This photograph was taken by Scott Edelman, who bought the dragonslayer short stories that inspired this novel when he was the editor of Science Fiction Age magazine. Scott also happens to be one of my favorite writers. His work is fearless, often hilarious, and always touching. If you're attending ReaderCon, you can hear him read on Sunday morning. Hearing Scott read is always one of the highlights of ReaderCon for me.
In addition to his webpage (http://scottedelman.com/), Scott also has an interesting blog at http://scottedelman.livejournal.com/ |

May 22, 2008 -- I've sold a short story to Sword & Sorceress 23, which should be coming out this November. Sword & Sorceress is a long-standing anthology -- this is volume #23 -- that's done by the Marion Zimmer Bradley Literary Works Trust (http://mzbworks.home.att.net/). My story is called "Black Magic," and it's about a young woman who disguises herself as a boy and works on an East India merchant ship during the hey-day of pirates. The story is about what happens when her ship crosses paths with a ghost ship. I'm so fond of the main character in this story that I'm thinking about writing a novel about her.

April 30, 2008 -- Last weekend I spoke about my novel at the 29th annual Medieval and Renaissance Forum at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire. Typically, the speakers are academics who talk about their research, and they graciously let me join them.
I attended the entire forum and was inspired by many of the presentations. I plan to contact a couple of professors, because I think their work is going to have a heavy influence on my next dragonslayer novel, and I want to be clear about what information I can and can't use.
I also found a great pair of chainmail earrings made by the student Medieval Society for the May contest prize. Click on Novels (in the right column) to check it out! |

March 15, 2008 -- Every so often I review a movie for Science Fiction Weekly, the online publication that's part of the SCI FI Channel's website. Most of the time I see movies that I cannot recommend, but yesterday I had the pleasure of seeing Horton Hears a Who. If you click on Magazine Articles (on the right) and scroll down a bit, there's a brief overview of why I like this movie so much and a link to my review. It's a pleasure to say that I highly recommend Horton!
